Outstanding Flute and Harp Duo in Leominster - Lion Ballroom
The concert starts at 3pm with the following programme:
Hamilton Harty In Ireland Mykola Lysenko La Tristesse (arranged for alto flute and harp) Grieg To Spring (arranged for solo harp) Gareth Farr Taheke (Waterfall) William Alwyn Naiades: Fantasy Sonata Ian Clarke Hypnosis John Rutter Suite Antique
There is much representation of the natural world in this programme: not only of a home country and a season of the year, but of three waterfalls in New Zealand (Gareth Farr’s ‘Taheke’) and of the nymphs of streams and fountains in Greek mythology (Alwyn’s Naiades). The rest of the programme is made up of an elegy from the Ukrainian Romantic composer Lysenko; a very popular dreamy piece by the British flautist/composer Ian Clarke; and a work by John Rutter, each movement of which is based on a Baroque or Classical style. This imaginative programme showcases the beauty of these instruments which will be played by two marvellous musicians: Sarah Newbold (sub-principal flute with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields) and Katherine Thomas (principal harp with the CBSO).
