Weir All the ends of the Earth Beethoven Concerto in C Major for Piano, Violin, Cello and Orchestra (“Triple Concerto”) Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music Handel Utrecht Te Deum
Acclaimed cellist Amy Norrington is joined by violinist Katharine Gowers and pianist Jâms Coleman for a work that shines a light on three soloists, Beethoven’s captivating Triple Concerto. Less openly bravura and instantly dazzling than some of Beethoven’s other works, this unique concerto is a musical rarity: in form, spirit and its reliance on teamwork.
Framing the concert is a selection of pieces for choir and orchestra. Judith Weir's joyful motet All the Ends of the Earth opens the concert. This is followed by Vaughan Williams’ exquisitely sweet and tender Serenade to Music in the second half. Bringing the evening to a close is the glorious Utrecht Te Deum by Handel. This jubilant five-part chorale enthralled audiences from its very first performance, continuing to do so today.
The beautiful and historic Dore Abbey provides the perfect ambience for this splendid musical celebration.
