Overview

This section of the Wye Valley Walk leaves Wales behind as we cross the border into England. It is a lovely mix of field walking and country lanes, passing through quiet hamlets and enjoying expansive views back into Wales and the Bannau Brycheiniog. The ascent of Merbach Hill (1043ft) rewards with views taking in 11 counties whilst the descent has a pleasing pastoral panorama across the Herefordshire Plain, down to Bredwardine, where the 19th century nature diarist Francis Kilvert is buried.

Important!  There are no facilities/refreshments on route so make sure you have enough food and drink for all day.

You will need walking boots and waterproof clothing, plus warm layers dependent on the weather.

Your Walk Leaders Jill Probert runs Embark Walking Holidays, a self-guided walking holiday company in Abergavenny. Living locally her favourite walk is the Wye Valley Walk.
