Top 4 ways to celebrate Mother’s Day in Herefordshire!
Here’s our top 4 ways to treat the most wonderful woman in your life, from gorgeous gardens to seasonal feasts.
1. Spot spring blooms
Head to Hergest Croft Gardens (open weekends in March & every day from 1 April) to spy meadows of blue scillas and snowdrops which are soon followed by daffodils, primroses, forget-me-nots and tulips. Afterwards, The Maples Tearoom (open 10am to 3pm) makes an inviting spot for tea and cake. Alternatively, wander the pretty riverside paths of the National Trust’s Weir Garden to discover a springtime sea of snowdrops and daffodils.
2. Indulge in afternoon tea
Mother’s Day is the perfect excuse to revel in the delights of a traditional afternoon tea. In Hereford, fresh flavours are the order of the day at Green Dragon Hotel which is also offering a complimentary British Royale cocktail on 18 March, made using local blackcurrants. Meanwhile, Castle House Hotel is another city-centre favourite for afternoon tea in sumptuous surroundings. The special champagne afternoon tea at Crumplebury near Bromyard promises a delicious selection for savoury and sweet treats, accompanied by live harp music. Or, for a modern twist on a classic, book The Bush Inn’s signature picnic bench afternoon teas.
3. Take a scenic walk
Spend a gorgeous morning or afternoon in nature! Follow one of our circular Roasts & Rambles routes to discover unexpected delights before finishing up at a superb country pub. For Mother’s Day, we would recommend Garway Hill with the Wild Ponies for 360-degree views and the chance to spot the grazing white mountain ponies. Afterwards, sample a seasonal feast at either The New Inn, a black and white 16th-century coaching inn, or at The Kilpeck Inn which also only lies a few moments away from the strikingly-carved Kilpeck Church.
4. Sit down to a slap-up lunch
In historic Ledbury, the Feathers Hotel & Brasserie is serving up a delicious 2 & 3 course Mothering Sunday menu, whilst in Hereford you can go à la carte in The Courtyard’s light-filled restaurant or sample the special menu at Green Dragon Hotel (with complimentary British Royale cocktail). Alternatively, make for local favourite, The Bookshop for an award-winning Sunday lunch.
