A treehouse in the early evening light
6th August, 2024

Sometimes, when we want a getaway that's a little out of the ordinary, only a treehouse will do! Whether you're looking for a romantic weekend in the woods, or a quirky, off-grid family holiday, we've got the perfect selection for you to explore below.

The Rookery Woods

When Heather and Dale Badman bought a plot of woodland at a pub auction, they had no idea they’d be turning it into the magical complex of Scandi-style tree cabins it is today. Each of the three cabins offers a uniquely luxurious experience – from the Rook’s Nook, with its infrared sauna and hot tub cinema room, to the Rook’s View, where you can enjoy an outdoor bubble bath with views for miles over uninterrupted hills and countryside.

Wake up, grab a cuppa, and make the most of a lazy morning out on the deck. If you fancy an adventure, the Bromyard Downs, and miles of ancient woodland, are right on your doorstep. When it’s time to settle down for the evening, whip up an easy supper in the pizza oven, and cozy up in front of the chiminea before bed. Bliss!

Inside the Treehouse at The Fold

The Treehouse at The Fold

The Treehouse at The Fold is another gorgeous cabin nestled on a wooded hillside. Up in the canopy here, you’ll feel complete and utter peace as you take in the stunning views, and soak up the soothing sounds of the valley. The Fold is a truly special place, set in 18 acres of registered Local Wildlife Reserve, on the Pritchard family’s farm. The Treehouse, one of four spaces here, has been beautifully designed to bring you the perfect blend of off-grid escapism and modern luxury.

Switch off the alarms and let yourself be woken softly by the gentle morning light instead. When you’re ready to get out of bed, stick the moka pot on the stove and take your coffee out onto the deck. Tucked under a blanket, there’s nothing like sitting up here in the branches, listening to the birdsong and watching the natural world go by. Then, whether you choose a day of adventure or relaxation, you can fix a delicious supper on the BBQ or in the pizza oven, before drifting off to sleep… and doing it all again.

Phoenix Tree at The Goytree

The Goytree

If a safari holiday is out of the question, you might just find the next best thing over at The Goytree. Tucked away on a hillside, just north of the Welsh border, you’ll find the fabulously whimsical Phoenix Tree, perched on top of an old oak. Built by local craftspeople, using straw-bale walls, bamboo rafters, clever ironwork and a canvas roof, it gives the feel of a safari lodge, but with fantastic views across to the Skirrid and Black Mountains, in place of a savannah!

Like the rest of The Goytree’s quirky holiday properties, Phoenix Tree is off-grid, so you can really unwind and immerse yourself in your own little world. When you get there, enjoy a relaxing soak in the outdoor, wood-fired hot tub, before falling asleep under a blanket of stars (there’s a skylight in the bedroom). If you fancy freshening up in the morning, potter down to the dingle for a hot shower among the trees - totally at one with nature.

Brook House Woods

Now, if you’re looking for a treehouse stay with something that little bit ‘extra’, then it’s worth checking out Brook House Woods. When you book one of their five boutique treehouses and wood cabins, you can also pay a bit extra for on-site massages, private yoga lessons, and even get a feasting kit brought to your cabin. There’s a tennis court for sporty visitors to make the most of, as well as Brook House’s own Woodland Cinema, which you can book to enjoy a movie night under the stars.

Here, you’re free to roam the grounds of Brook House’s 300-acre farm. If you’re looking for a bit of a ramble, join the Herefordshire Trail, which crosses the farmland, or walk out to the Bromyard Downs or Bringsty Common from your doorstep. When it’s time to simply unwind and reset, grab a book and let the hours melt away out on the balcony, high up in the branches and far from the madding crowds.

One Acre Wood

Over at One Acre Wood, the two luxurious treehouses make the perfect setting for a getaway with a home-from-home feel. Each treehouse has heaps of space, comfortably sleeping up to four adults and two children - ideal for family and group holidays. You may be up in the woodland canopy, but you won’t miss any creature comforts here, with a posh shower, underfloor heating, a fully kitted out kitchen, WiFi and a Smart TV at your fingertips.

Step outside and experience a glorious little world of nature trails, grass meadows, tree swings and hidden paths on your doorstep. Kids will love building dens and bug hunting on dry days, but there’s a clubhouse with table tennis and board games onsite for when it’s too rainy to play outside. When you get back after a busy day of adventure together, head for the deck, light the fire pit and stick some dough balls in the pizza oven. And if you’re not in the mood to cook, just walk ten minutes for pub grub at the two inns nearby.
