Meet The Kilpecks
Amazing Herefordshire folk band who created the soundtrack for our TV ad
The Kilpecks play fresh upbeat folk and were specially commissioned to compose the soundtrack for Visit Herefordshire's TV ad. The result is 'Feel A World Away', a super catchy tune that is set to be the county's summer anthem.
We wanted to find out more about this fabulous folk quartet so we asked them a few questions...
Who are the four piece folk band The Kilpecks?
Well, we’re the March Hare, the Summer Swallow, the Wild Winter Swan. We draw on myth and make merriment in the hour of the setting sun. We wander down Drovers’ lanes and dance through the Orchards...We are Joseph Emmett, vocals and main wordsmith, alongside vocalist Lizzie Keylock, whilst the music is made by guitarist, vocalist and foot stomper Tavis Harvey and violinist and vocalist Claire Edwards. Together we are confident that our musicianship, harmonies and lively ‘festival’ sound will be the perfect way to either kick start or keep any celebration flowing.
What are the roots of the band's name?
Our name is taken from the unique Kilpeck Church, adorned with the most incredible Romanesque carvings, which lies in the beautiful Herefordshire landscape. It’s the perfect influence for a band who reside on the fringes and within the folds of the Marchers and the Celtic world.
Can you share a sense of your music and your inspirations?
This sense of place and space, of landscape and language, have helped to inspire the writing of our original tracks; be it our pirate classic, The King Shilling, or Haunted Man, Celtic Heart, Cider in our Hands or, our latest release, Feel A World Away. We play a smattering of covers, such as Belle of Belfast City, Galway Girl and I Will Wait, who together lift the limbs of revellers holding their drinks aloft.
Where can we listen to more tunes from The Kilpecks?
Listen to Feel A World Away and other tracks from The Kilpecks on Apple Music or come along to the brilliant Indie Food Festival in Hereford where we'll be playing at lunchtime on Sunday 29 August.
Tell us one final interesting about the band?
The Kilpecks are delighted to be sponsored by Herefordshire based Celtic Marches, which is one of the UK’s largest self-sustaining single estate cider producers and proud of their genuine heritage, provenance, traceability and sustainability. With full control from ‘Pip to Pint’, they grow, pick and press on site at their farm in Bromyard, blending with precision to create our international award-winning ciders.

Lyrics to 'Feel a World Away'
by The Kilpecks for Visit Herefordshire
On the banks, of the River Wye,
Watching, herds of Herefords go by.
Chorus:
It all went past in a blink of an eye,
Oh what a day, I can’t lie.
So, lie back and
feel a world away
Along the rivers and the walkways,
You can rest, wander, you can play.
Let each day, be a new day,
Let your worries and your troubles fade
Chorus:
It all went past in a blink of an eye,
Oh what a day, I can’t lie.
So, lie back and
feel a world away
Solo
Chorus:
It all went past in a blink of an eye,
Oh what a day, I can’t lie.
So, lie back and feel a world away
Along the rivers and the walkways,
You can rest, wander, you can play.
Let each day, be a new day,
Let your worries and your troubles fade.
Lie back and feel a world away
Raise a glass, oh won’t you stay?
Walk on and feel a world away
Come gather won’t you stay
Across these hills, we can play gather, won’t you stay?
Hey Honey, I feel a world away
