Description

Brecon Mountain Railway is one of the most popular railways in Wales. Travel in one of our all-weather observation coaches behind a vintage steam locomotive into the Brecon Beacons National Park along the full length of the Taf Fecan Reservoir to Dol-y-Gaer. The whole trip takes 65 minutes including a 20 minute stop at Pontsticill where you can visit the lakeside cafe, play area or go for a walk.

On your return to Pant, visit our workshops where old steam locomotives are repaired – follow the new footpath to a picnic site which has an amazing panoramic view of the valley. Visit our Licensed Tearooms and buy a souvenir of your visit in the shop. Free car and coach park.

Dogs are permitted. Disabled status: Level 3.

Advanced Booking: This is not necessary except for parties, and Christmas.

Facilities for the Disabled: We have excellent facilities for disabled persons including ramps, toilets and a carriage especially designed to carry wheelchairs.

Christmas: A special service will operate in December. Father Christmas will meet the train and distribute presents to the children. A special leaflet and booking form are available on request.

Directions

We are located just off the Heads of the Valleys trunk road - about 3 miles north of Merthyr Tydfil. Follow the Mountain Railway signs from the A470 and A465 and you arrive in our large free car and coach park.

For those travelling by public transport, we are close to the 35 bus route from Merthyr Central Bus Station.
