Herefordshire Walking Festival 2013

Nine days – more than fifty walks and one beautiful county to explore ….

15th – 23rd June, 2013

53 varied walks for all to enjoy – old favourites & new ideas

What better way to enjoy the delights of Herefordshire than in the care and comfort of friends … you might even meet ‘the one’ on the Llama Speed Dating walks with the guidance of your four-footed allies.

Stop Press:  Walk 52 Speed Dating Llama Trek 2 (age group from 45) – fully booked for ladies – 8 men urgently needed.  Be brave!  Ring 01432 268430 to make your booking.

Never featured before in the festival, Vaughans Way connects Offa’s Dyke Path at its junction with the Mortimer Trail at Kington to the Wye Valley Walk at Bredwardine.   Three days walking make the journey in reverse and travel on along Offa’s Dyke Path to Hay-on-Wye.   Premiered last year, four more sections of the Hill Forts and Castles Walk have been researched and included in the programme this year over the weekends.

Try the Trumpet Trail to meet a furniture maker and a potter, ending with apple juice, cider & perry tasting from the Best Drinks Producer – BBC Food & Farming Awards 2012.  Explore your creative response to landscape with an exclusive writers workshop.    Discover Byron’s country retreats in this bicentenary year, the 1,000 year old oak at Moccas in an ancient deer park, walk with a geologist, an archaeologist, the ornithological club, delve into the historical market towns and shiver at tales of hauntings & horrors in Hereford.  Learn new skills including Nordic Walking and navigation for walkers using GPS or a smartphone or just walk through the beautiful countryside.   The choice is yours.

There are plenty of opportunities to sample Herefordshire’s wonderful food and drink;  several walks provide you with the chance to get to know your fellow walkers over a good meal.  Sunday lunch in the Golden Valley after an introduction to the land by the farmer, a delicious pub supper in the company of the maker of truly indulgent ice cream, who has brought some samples to taste, not to mention cream teas and cake.
