Description
Set in beautiful Herefordshire countryside yet only a short distance away from Hereford City centre, The Steppes Bed & Breakfast offers stylish accommodation with a hint of country. A taste of ancient English history at its best, yet with the luxury you would expect from a top rate bed and breakfast establishment. An historical building in its own right, The Steppes is said to date back to the 16th Century when Henry VIII was King of England and England was torn by the Restoration.
Although we are located in the heart of some very pretty Herefordshire countryside, we have adapted our facilities to enable everyone to enjoy the location. There are three delightful ensuite rooms, contained within a new extension and annexe to the hosue, offering the highest standards of comfort. Full accessibility is provided to all rooms.
Dating back to 1530, The Steppes is a happy home for Lin and Martin. Lin is a keen advocate for self-sufficiency and as such has a large vegetable plot stocked with supplies for the year, plus chickens, sheep and bees. If the bees have been busy this year, there will be honey available for sale – just ask Lin for details.
As this is our first year of opening, both of us are continuing to work until the business is established, so are unable to provide a cooked breakfast on weekday mornings. We will provide a continental breakfast in your room from Monday to Friday mornings and at the weekends will welcome you into the breakfast room for a cooked breakfast of your choice. Breakfast eggs are supplied courtesy of Lin’s chickens and all ingredients are sourced from local Herefordshire smallholders where possible.
Each room has been lavishly furnished with the lastest designs and equipped with crisp white bed linen and fluffy white towels, WiFi, Freeview colour TVs, tea/coffee making facilities. Large windows lookout to the gardens and pond, offering pleasant views at any time of the year. We have one double, one twin and one family room available. Dogs, children, walkers, cyclists are all welcome.
Arrival time is between 4.30pm and 7.30pm.
Liz and Martin, your hosts, are both keen to bring you an experience you will want to repeat, whether you are on holiday or on a business trip. They will assist with local knowledge and eateries.
The Steppes Bed & Breakfast is conveniently located twixt the Worcester (A4103) and Ledbury (A438) roads coming into Hereford. Four miles from Hereford City Centre and just 25 minutes from the M50 motorway. The village of Lugwardine has two public houses, both of which provide a choice of excellent food and both within a ten minute walk.
Herefordshire is renowned for its excellent restaurants and food suppliers, its cider route, black & white trail and The Steppes is within easy reach of the Brecon Beacons, Hay on Wye, Ludlow, Ledbury and Leominster.

Public Transport: Hereford Station or Bus Station, DRM bus No. 476 - nearest bus stop is Lugwardine Church. Lumber Lane is opposite the church. The Steppes is approx 1/4 mile along Lumber Lane.
The nearest motorway is M50 - Junction 2 to Ledbury. Pass through Ledbury on the A438 towards Hereford. At Lugwardine Church, turn right into Lumber Lane and The Steppes is approx 1/4 mile on the left.
